>Pop Out Flowers!

>

This activity is a fun one that I came across one day on http://www.teachpreschool.org/ . Its a simple fun activity that my children loved! We decided to make pop out flowers. Alhamdulillah the materials are easy to gather. I love this idea because its so creative and it gave us a chance to talk about flowers and how they grow. Let your children use their imagination.
Materials:
Paint
Paper Cups
Scissors
Green Contruction Paper
Any color construction paper for the background
Directions:
1.) Use scissors to cut small slits around the paper cup. You can monitor your child and let them do this. Fold the petals down. Try not to pull too hard so the petals do not break
2.) Fold the petals down. Try not to pull too hard so the petals do not break
3.) Paint the petals or use marks to decorate it. Also paint the center of it
4.) As your child paints the petals, parents can cut the green construction paper to make the leaves and stem.
5.) Make outlines of the stem and leaf in glue on the construction paper and have your child glue the cut out leaves on the outlined glue.

6.) After that put a big glob of glue on the top of the stem and place the cup flower on top!

>Rainbow Rice!

>

Rice Rocket!

Grace and Peace everyone! ! Just recently a friend of the family gave us a big bag of rice. I had to make space for it in the kitchen cabinet and so on my cleaning spree I found an unused box of food coloring! Me and my husband decided to mix a little rice and food coloring for the children to make pictures with.
Materials:
rice
food coloring
ziploc bags
rubbing alcohol (optional)
We put the rice inside ziploc bags added a few drops of food coloring in each bag. sealed it closed and then let the children shake and move the rice around until it was all coated. After it dried we decorated pictures with it.
Now there have been many ways to do colored rice and many recipes include rubbing alcohol, I have heard it makes the colors brighter but I never tried it. Also we have done this same activity with cooked spaghetti.. yes cooked lol and not cooked

>Time Out: Not Just For Children!

>

The children are crying, the place is a wreck, and you just can’t seem to get it together today. It happens to all of us, what is important is how we behave and act when we get off track. Are you the kind of person to yell? Say a bad word? Slam doors? or Give the children a harder time than usual because you are in a bad mood.

Sadly, many of us let our emotions get the best of us, we must learn to master or feelings and know when to take a break. I say parents need a time out too, what happens when a parent takes a time out? They regroup, reflect, and feel refreshed. Then they are able to get back into the “game” with a whole other attitude. One that keeps the team together and motivated.
One of my dear friends said the M in mom does not stand for machine. I like to say the M stands for miraculous, we are able to dedicate ourselves to our family and be the strong backbone of support. The house functions much better when we are at our best but if we are not, everyone suffers. This is a list of reminders for parents when they need to STOP and take a time out.
1. Keep Allah (God) first. Turn to Him at all times and ask for Him to increase you in sabr (patience) and sakina (ease)
2.Take a breather, go for a walk and change the enviroment.
3. Seek the support of family and good friends. They can help you achieve number two and take the load off
.
4. Motivations! Talking to other moms/parents can inspire you and give you a pep talk and boost
5. Have fun, laugh, smile and thank Allah for your blessings.. there are so many you can lose count!!
