Reading Practice- Blocks & Balloons

As a child I always had a love of reading, books allowed me to travel to new places, meet new people, and explore! I want my children to have a love of reading and they do! Alhamdulilah my son has been reading since he was two years old. We are always looking for new and fun ways to make reading fun.

The more fun something is the more inclined the children will be to do it.  In this blog post I will show two ways to make learning and reading fun! One way: Blocks

We have A LOT of blocks but this kind in particular has ABC’s and numbers. We put the blocks together for some reading practice.  Hands on, and getting the children involved has really produced children in our home that love to learn!

During Ramadan we have lighten on the lessons a bit,  and will resume to our Ramadan post tomorrow inshaAllah. For our two year old we used the number side and did some number and color recognition. We practiced letter sounds, combining the letter sounds and reading words. Even though he knew his letter sounds at an early age, we still like to go over them every now and then.

I love the blocks! It’s a great investment to make and there is so much you can do with them, the boy’s even made towers with them!

Another idea we used when our oldest son 2, was using a balloon and writing words on it for him to read as he played with it in the house.

It is a great idea, we tossed the balloon around and whoever caught it, had to read the words on the balloon.

This is a small mobile picture of the balloon inshaAllah we will do this activity again and take pictures with our camera.

Start early with a love of reading even by simply putting the ABC’s on the balloon, numbers, and any other things you are working on.

The children will love it!
