Body Measurements

We had a Peter Pan moment where the boys enjoyed the body cutouts for about a hour, before we actually used them to measure items around the house.

We simply used cardboard boxes, the boys laid on them and we traced their body on it and cut it out.

We made number cards on index cards to mark the spots on the wall so we could easily keep count

You can use the body cutouts to label body parts as well, it’s a great visual aid but the main thing is that it is personal because its them and so the children obviously named their cutouts after themselves: Takbir and Tasbeeh

Tomorrow inshaAllah we will use them for body parts, more measurements and play time 🙂

Graphing with leaves

Had a great time collecting them and then observing them.  A fun way to introduce graphs

Homemade flash cards with number on the front and the amount of star stickers on the back

DIY pattern sheets, we made this on the computer and cut out the similar shapes, then had the children glue them in the right place

Egg Carton Math.. we let the children paint the egg carton and numbered the inside… you can have children put the amount of cheerios or beans in each numbered slot

First attempt Addition Lapbook

We did addition this week alhamdulilah it was fun, we came up with a new song and did some macaroni math, see: http://habeebeescholars.blogspot.com. We became interested in lapbooking,

I think it is fun and beneficial too! A great way to store work and you can use it for each child or let someone else use it. I was working on making a lapbook the past couple days, but became side tracked and finally completed it tonight. Can’t wait for the boys to use it!

The past week I requested materials for homeschooling on freecycle and alhamdulilah was blessed to get a big box of pretty much new supplies. Folders, crayons, markers, paper and more.

Hubby and I put this simple addition lapbook together

Using index cards we put 1 addition facts and taped them enough so they can use washable markers to write the answers and reuse

Then we made a series of mini books inside the lapbook, on matching, addition chart, addition with pictures, word problems and circle the right answer workbook

We will be working on our second lapbook later this weekend inshaAllah for counting numbers 1-10

This was really fun to do and it looks like I will add lapbooking into our homeschooling!

>Egg Carton Math

>

I really love when we have art ideas that are just at our finger tips! We did this for the boys a nice math game. Someone asked me whats the purpose of this. Well I say, it helps with number recognition, counting, and sorting when you use beans or bigger objects.

The boys loved it, I recommend having the children decorate it, I believe children atr much more interested when they are involved in the process
